Oil paintings with a meaning

Christophe de Callatay invites us into a universe where painting becomes thought, speaking to the intellect as much as to the soul and the heart. His canvases never present themselves as mere representations: they are poetic reflections, true visual meditations on civilization and chaos, the quest for and subsequent abandonment of the gods, nature and democracy under threat, and the uncertain future of humanity.

Polycrisis - Vortex of Chaos (2025)

When multiple interconnected crises unfold simultaneously, interacting and amplifying their devastating effects.

Ecological, social, political, and technological crises collide, contaminate one another, and intensify, revealing their deep entanglement.

Humanity is thus thrust into an unprecedented state of instability, exposing the dizzying complexity of our time.

The Architect of Chaos (2025)

In a world where human harmony seems increasingly fragile, The Architect of Chaos pays tribute to the engineers of disorder—figures who operate in the shadows, sowing confusion much like others once built cathedrals.

Amid apparent chaos, the outline of a face emerges—partly hidden, crowned, and watchful. Two eyes, glowing at the heart of a chromatic storm, invite us to contemplate their work.

Could chaos be a necessary precursor, a raw material for creation itself? With the hope that from disorder, a better world will arise.

Slava Ukraini ! (2022)

A tribute to the bravery of the Ukrainian people — unyielding in their courage, radiant in their resilience.

Two rams, symbols of strength and resolve, embody the indomitable spirit of Ukraine. Their calm defiance reminds us that true courage lies in the steadfast refusal to yield.

Painted in blue and gold—the nation’s colors—they stand not only in defense of their homeland, but as a bulwark protecting freedom and the free world.

04

The Territories of the Imagination (2019)

These mountains are not landscapes alone but inner realms, where a multitude of colors gives voice to the full range of human feelings.

Their stillness is not emptiness but resonance — a sanctuary of solitude, where life and spirit meet in quiet majesty.

And for the attentive eye, two birds have made their nest within these sacred territories.
